Led by Joshua "John" Smeltink (On-Ly), Henry "Henderson" Hicks (Horatio Luna) and realised by the virtuosity of Damien Ellis on drums, the trio balances lyrical composition with fearless improvisation, drawing from the post-bop lineage while speaking with a distinctly modern Australian voice. Their chemistry is built on years of collaboration across jazz, soul, and improvised music, resulting in performances that feel both refined and completely alive.

Long-time collaborators Master Kapow & Roswel (Fabian Acuna & Jarrod Brereton) present an evening of all-original music born from a simple idea: what happens when two musicians challenge themselves to compose specifically for a unique and eclectic ensemble of instruments?

Fabian and Jarrod have been making music together since high school, across folk bands, party bands, commercial projects and hybrid electronic acts. Their musical lives have always been shaped by the different projects they've found themselves in. With Blank Canvas, they are scratching a long time itch: starting from nothing and seeing where their own musical ideas take them.

The result is an immersive chamber music experience combining wind quintet with electric bass and drums. Intricate, neo-classical textures weave through propulsive grooves, building music that pulses with life, drama and reflection.

Expect a journey through the musical minds of two long-time collaborators as they explore composition, improvisation, texture and rhythm without being bound to a particular genre or format. It's a project built on creative freedom, curiosity and the thrill of discovering where an idea might lead.

Ned Collette returns to Melbourne to launch his new album ‘Mixed Light', out in Australia on It Records. Featuring a quintet of his closest collaborators – The Necks' Chris Abrahams on piano, Ben Bourke bass, Leah Senior voice, and Joe Talia on the drums – last seen on our shores as part of the monolithic New Rampant Optimism Roadshow at Rising 2025. This will be a chance to see the band more deeply explore material from ‘Mixed Light' and 2024's ‘Our Other History', as well as numbers dating back to his beloved 2006 debut, ‘Jokes & Trials'.

Collette has long established himself as a songwriter whose literate, evocative songs are paired with music that's both adventurous and eclectic. His albums exist inside a dynamic flux of folk, jazz and avant rock, and his songwriting, combined with his early background in improvised and experimental music, has resulted in eight albums of uncompromising vision, released on a variety of international labels. These are produced mostly out of his studio in Berlin, where he has been based since 2010. He has collaborated and shared stages with artists such as Bonnie Prince Billy (who sings on the new album), Cat Power, Bill Callahan, Joanna Newsom, Kurt Vile, and Deerhoof, and appeared at festivals throughout Europe, Australasia, Japan, South America and the USA.

Surprise Chef are the Melbourne based quartet whose cinematic blend of soul, funk, jazz and forgotten soundtrack worlds has taken them from humble home-studio sessions to stages around the globe. Formed in Coburg, the band began by chasing spontaneous grooves recorded straight to tape, only to uncover a creative chemistry that would become the foundation of one of Australia’s most distinctive instrumental groups. Their analogue warmth and deep musical curiosity has earned them a devoted international following.For this special album preview show, the band will bring new material to the stage, offering a glimpse into the next chapter of their ever-expanding sonic world.

Northern soul is a music and dance culture that emerged in working class youth clubs in Northern England and the midlands in the early 1970s. It developed from the British mod scene and celebrates a particular style of fast, gritty and rare Black American soul music. 
Northern soul went underground in the 80s and 90s but was sustained and expanded by diehard dancers and prominent DJs discovering previously overlooked records. Today, in the UK and beyond, Northern Soul is experiencing a resurgence with flocks of young people searching for an alternative club night that prioritises the music and not the DJ.

Celebrate the release of Kasinda's debut EP ‘This Life' on November 6th at Brunswick's Quadrophonic Club.
‘This Life' platforms themes of freedom, justice and cultural connection, showcasing our shared humanity and experiences across seas and continents. Journeying through genres of reggae, afro-folk and afrobeat, Kasinda promises to bring the heat with this debut live performance. The music was inspired through Kasinda's three trips to Ghana and Nigeria throughout 2024 and 2025 where she sought to explore her own Nigerian heritage and contemplated the themes which bind people despite their differences. Recorded across Accra, Ghana and Melbourne, Australia (Naarm), the EP features many talented musicians across Afrobeat, reggae and jazz genres including Immy Owusu, members from Surprise Chef, Immy Owusu, Ansong Jnr (GH) and dub mix by Ben Mckone (Hollie Cook, Jalen Ngonda). This Life serves as a reminder that we as a collective create the world we live, and are not merely observers.
Joining Kasinda at the Quadrophonic Club is Afrodelik pioneer Immy Owusu and bringing the big afterparty energy, Folarin (DJ).

Experience your first taste of a Paynesville summer with the launch of Possum' debut album 'Paynesville Seafoods'.

Described as "a fish and chip shop concept album", the record documents the ex-fishing town of Paynesville on Gunaikurnai Country on the Gippsland Lakes through a series of lakeside narratives. It will be celebrated with a very special full-album playthrough featuring Possum's quartet, string section and special guests!

Acclaimed as one of Naarm's most disarmingly honest and hilarious songwriters, Possum's brand of hyperlocal folk captivates audiences with tales of Victorian towns and cities. A modern take on Australian songs from the ‘60s folk revival, her music beautifully crafts humour and vulnerability to thread narratives through time and place.
Her music has been widely supported across community radio including 3RRR, PBS, 4ZZZ and ABC Country.

In celebration of its 2nd birthday, Blacksound Records presents for the first time in 4-dimensional quadraphonic sound:

Vile Apparition, Bacchus Harsh, Diploid, Sow Discord, Religious Observance, Rod Cooper — performing live on The Vessel — and Cadmium.

Melbourne's Vile Apparition return to the stage following the recruitment of Brendan Sloan (Convulsing, Altars) on lead guitar and drummer Dom Duszniak. Their 2025 full-length Malignity (Me Saco Un Ojo, Dark Descent Records) was a highlight of the death metal calendar, now presented live for the first time in full and with renewed creative force.
Bacchus Harsh is the alias of Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist Christian Bishop, whose previous incarnation Xian was a pioneer of the Australian breakcore scene. The 2021 full-length Caveat Tumultum is the sonic embodiment of occult-themed electronics and deconstructed club music, deterritorialising exotica, occult psychedelia and industrial techno with polyrhythms and distorted blast beats.

Since 2010, Diploid has been a primal force searing underneath the pyre of Australian grindcore and heavy music more broadly. Crushing, urgent, depressing and fierce, few can stand toe-to-toe with the blistering vocals, thematic despair and rapid-fire instrumentals that strike straight at a listener's pressure points. Hot on the heels of their latest European tour and performances at Czechia's Obscene Extreme festival, Diploid's blend of noise, grindcore and bleak aesthetics will punish audiences again this November.

Sow Discord is the dense, subterranean electronics project of Dave Coen (Whitehorse). The 2025 full-length Retroactive Extortion (Televised Suicide) is a dark and heavy slab of carefully crafted sample-based electronics, filled with coded references to Coen's love of early '90s hip hop. His extensive back catalogue has seen him collaborate with the likes of The Body, Intensive Care and more.

Religious Observance is the long-running, all-obliterating hammer of sludge, noise and doom. Est. 2015, the six-piece presents here with its twin vocal and noise attack in a never-more-fitting, all-encompassing quadraphonic sound.

For over 40 years, Rod Cooper has been building and performing on instruments and noise machines of his own invention. Incorporating tape, gadgets, mortal coils, drain spaces, bridge spaces, microphones, computers, wood, metal, paint, paper, plastic and glass — Cooper's devices are both performance instruments and artistic sound sculptures in their own right. The Vessel, designed and constructed over a seven-year period, was completed in 2009. Constructed from stainless steel, it has seen ongoing modifications to the extended apparatuses of its mast and musical riggings at various sites and performances across Australia. Measuring over 3.5 metres long and around a metre wide, this is a rare opportunity to witness Rod Cooper performing live on The Vessel.

Cadmium burst onto Melbourne's live music scene in 2026 with its dark brand of skramz, reminiscent of the early second wave of Ebullition Records-style emo meeting powerviolence at the turn of the century. Cadmium's bleak and dissonant style is a refreshing and exciting sound within a developing new wave of underground acts reclaiming the early DIY roots of the style in Australia.

Presented live at Quad Club, housed in the former Pontian Community Club building on the corner of Victoria and Percy streets in Brunswick, the venue features a four-channel quadraphonic sound system designed to place the audience inside a spatial field of sound built for volume, texture, physicality and immersion. Located 600 metres from Blacksound Records, Quad Club is easily accessible by car or public transport and features a full bar and kitchen. Blacksound Records-selected DJs will be spinning music after the bands until late.
